How Do Press Fittings Save Time in Pipe Installation?

Employing press-fittings dramatically cuts installation time by eliminating steps associated with many older connection methods, such as soldering, threading, or gluing. Jufang Pipes, a pipe and fitting brand, discusses soldering as a strategy, but first, one must preheat the pipe and fitting, wait for solder to melt, and, upon cooling, clean excess solder which adds to the time for each joint and is wasted. Threading involves the tedious and time-brutal task of cutting a pipe end with a die, while gluing entails applying adhesive and waiting for it to set while making sure there is proper alignment. This process, however, is a comparison to using press-fittings which involves three steps: aligning the pipe with a fitting, sliding a press ring, and compressing it with a press tool. A press fitting connection can be established in 1-2 minutes while a soldered joint would take 5-8 minutes. The elimination of these steps drastically speeds up every connection and installation as a whole is made dramatically easier.

No waiting time for curing or cooling

Press fitting technology has many advantages and one such is the lack of time wasted waiting for the cooling mentioned before with solder fittings which allows for the plumber to immediately be able to attend to the next task.

Jufang Pipes explains that glued PVC fittings requires 30 minutes to 2 hours to form a strong bond. It is bond 시간이 dependend on temperature and humidity. Therefore, plumbers must wait before testing or continuing installation. Soldered copper fittings, however, take 10-15 minutes to cool down and avoid damaging the joint or causing burns. In contrast, press fittings create a secure seal the moment the press tool completes compression. After installing a row of 20 press fittings on a residential water line, the plumber can immediately test the system for leaks and proceed to install other components. Not having to wait for the system to press can take hours or even days off the whole project when compared to other methods. Portable press tools save time and helps complete projects much faster.

The portable, user friendly tools for press fittings saves time by decreasing the setup and operation time of heavy and cumbersome traditional tools. Setting up these tools alone takes 15-20 minutes at the start of a project, and they need frequent refueling or adjustment.

Unlike threading machines, which are cumbersome, expensive, heavy, and time-consuming to setup, press tools are simple, lightweight (3 to 5 kgs), and cordless (20 mins to fully charge). They can be used a few mins after charging and are perfect for installers as they can be so easily carried and operated by one hand. For instance, a press tool can be used in a narrow bathroom where a threading machine cannot by rapidly installing press fittings and meaning that the workspace does not have to be altered. Installers can carry out operations easily and can avoid time-consuming setup meaning that the entire construction process can be completed faster.

Press fittings reduce rework time by minimizing installation errors, which is what sets them apart from the traditional methods. According to Jufang Pipes, traditional methods are linked to some level of mistake, such as cold solder joints, (solder joints that are weak due to insufficient heat and must be removed and re soldered), over-tightened threaded joints (cracking the pipe), or under-tightened joints (causing leaks). Every mistake can take from 10 mins to 30 mins to solve, which can easily extend the project deadline by a long time.

“Unlike other products, press fittings have internal alignment guides that make certain the pipe and the fitting are placed correctly for the initial compression. Also, the press tool delivers mechanical compliance precision every time, thus averting human error with regards to force application. Confirming a proper seal is easy with the press fittings from Jufang Pipes, which come with visual indicators such as a colored ring that shifts upon compression. In the end, this reduction in errors ensures that plumbers spend little time fixing mistakes, and this makes the installation process a lot more efficient,”

“In large scale installations such as the construction of a commercial building or a residential block, press fittings save time by streamlining the process of connecting multiple joints in a single run. Jufang Pipes asserts that when dealing with traditional methods, there is a problem with uniformity in multi joint projects, where each soldered or threaded joint takes different amounts of time depending on the skill of the worker and the condition of the tools. With press fittings, all the joints are done with the same steps and the process is repeated multiple times on dozens or even hundreds of joints. For example, a plumbing team can spend about 2 to 3 days installing press fittings to the HVAC pipe system of a commercial building that has more than a hundred joints. In contrast, if the team uses soldered joints, the installation can take anywhere from 5 to 7 days.”

Moreover, press fittings do not need a crew of specialist workers (i.e., one person for soldering, one person for cleaning and one person for polishing). Installation of press fittings can be completed by a single plumber with no additional help. This simplification to multi joint workflows removes a whole step to the process and completes the project faster, which makes press fittings perfect for big installations.
